Our Next Project
Now that the wedding is over, we have much more time on our hands (Haha! Yeah right, like grad school and work aren’t enough work). So we’re planning on redoing the floors throughout the house.
We wanted to refinish the hardwood floors throughout the house, but the previous owners had problems with potty training their pets (you should have seen the carpet stains when Fred moved in, thanks to Vickie and Joe for the use of their carpet cleaner and Fred’s hard work scrubbing, they aren’t as noticeable). The stains soaked through the carpet and have ruined the wood in the living room and bedrooms. There’s also the smell that goes along with the stains (it’s not noticeable, unless the house has been closed up for a long period of time). Whatever we do, we will have to seal the floors before we put anything else down.
By now, you know that we have a few pets of our own (none who have trouble pottying in designated areas…anymore), so we are looking for the best flooring options that make cleaning up as easy as possible, can hold up to Nina running laps and Casper’s claws (I never de-clawed him, they cut off cats’ last knuckles! I think that’s horrible), and isn’t too expensive.
Fred really wants to lay Pergo flooring in the living room, hallway, and bedrooms. We have heard that it scratches easily and may not hold up to lots of wear. Then we’ve also heard that it’s durable and long lasting.
Carpet seems to be our only other option, but it traps so much dirt and pet hair and stains easier.
In the kitchen and bathroom, I think we’re going to just put down linoleum, even though I’d love to do tile. Fred thinks it won’t be cost effective to do this, because if we sell the house, we won’t get the cost back. Plus that’s a lot of work.
Let us know your opinion on what we should do by leaving a comment under this post. We’d appreciate any help making this decision!
