I’m not really a slacker!

I swear!  I know that I said I wanted to post a few things every week and I’ve not been keeping up with that lately, but I’ve been busy!  As of today, we have less than 2 weeks until my due date.  That means I have probably no more than two and a half weeks left before I am the mother of 2 boys under 2 years old!  Cal was born 2 days past his due date, so I doubt that I will go much past that with this one, although it is possible (please send lots of good thoughts my way… I don’t want to be pregnant for longer than 2 more weeks!!!) that I could go a week or two past my due date still.

So, like I said, I’ve been busy.  Doing what, you ask?  Hmm, some call it nesting while others would simply call it living.  Either way, I (along with Fred and Calvin and even Nina) have been busy getting ready for the arrival of our newest family member:

1. Cleaned up the nursery: Fred and I moved all of Cal’s things out of the nursery (like his clothes and toys) and put all the infant things back in (like the little clothes!).

2. Finished putting together the odds and ends in Cal’s new room (all the decorations are up).

3. Broke Cal of his night time bottle (Yay!! He’s turning into such a big boy!).

4. Washed and stuffed all the new cloth diapers we bought for  Baby J 2.o.

5. Cooking and freezing meals for after our new baby joins us.  Check out this awesome site about freezer meals (aka Once A Month Cooking).

6. Walking and hiking as much as possible (Nina is good at helping with this).

7. Washing all the fabric covered infant accessory surfaces in the washing machine.

8. Working (and making a little money in order to afford living expenses for everyone in our family).

So really, I’ve been busy and haven’t meant to neglect blogging all the updates in the lives of Fred-n-Sara.  I have some other things I’ve wanted to post about, hopefully I’ll get to them soon.  But until then, just know I’m not neglecting my blogger duties on purpose!

Last week: A little late

Posted by Sara on Sep 1, 2009 under Baby, Dog, Last week in review, Photos, School, Updates

Last seemed like a busy week, but when I sit and think about it, not a lot went on.  I think it seemed busy because both Fred and I are fully back at work and it’s been a little hectic getting into the grove again.  But here’s a little recap on our week (sorry it’s late…)

  • While Fred technically started back to work the week before, this past week was his first full week with students.
  • I started back to work on Monday, and even though I only work 1/2 a day, 5 days a week, it through a wrench in what I’ve been able to get done lately.  My schedule also changed from working mornings (last year) to working afternoons now, so that’s an adjustment for both Cal and I.
  • Cal discovered the pots and pans cabinet while I was cooking…he loves to cook already!

  • Nina got her stitches out.  She’s still wearing her cone when we aren’t around, but she’s doing pretty good.
  • Sunday we started  this year’s fall hiking spree with the Summit County Metro Parks, by hiking the quarry trail at the Deep Lock Quarry.  Cal can’t wait to earn his hiking staff!

One more thing…please keep my grandmother in your thoughts and prayers, she went into the hospital over the weekend with some abdominal pain, the doctors think it is related to her colon. Hopefully she will make a speedy recovery and be able to go home soon.

Last week in review: Transition

Posted by Sara on Aug 24, 2009 under Baby, Dog, Last week in review

I should find time to write this post earlier in the day.  I always wait until after everything else is done and Cal is in bed.  Then, by the  time I sit down I’m ready for bed.  Tonight is no exception, with the first day back to work behind me, I’m pooped.  So this will be short (and I’ll add pictures later, I have a few but the camera is in the basement at the other computer and Fred is busy working on school stuff there).

  • The biggest news: Cal transitioned into his big boy bed!  We put him down for naps starting Monday and by Saturday he was sleeping at night in it.  And I have to say, while it was my idea not to buy another crib and just move Cal out of the one we have, I was pretty nervous about it.  I thought it’d be hard and Cal would fall out or climb out, but really, he hasn’t.  He’s really done well sleeping in his big room.
  • As we transition Cal into his big boy bed, I’m working on getting the nursery set up for Baby J 2.0!
  • Fred started work on Friday, back to the grind!!!
  • Nina had her surgery to remove a cyst from her leg.  She’s getting used to her “cone” now.

  • We had visitors from Maryland on Friday, it’s always good to get together with good friends for a great meal and ice cream :)

And that’s it!  I told you it’d be short this week!  And now I’m off to relax a little before calling it a night.  Have a good week!

Word of the Day: Ouch

Posted by Sara on Aug 19, 2009 under Dog

Today’s word is:

Ouch

I don’t have a picture to go with it for a couple reasons.  First, the word involves our loving dog, Nina, who is severely terrified of any electronic device, making her very hard to capture on camera.  Second, I really doubt anyone wants to see her wound. And third, our camera is broken and I haven’t gotten the loaner out much yet.

Want to know what’s wrong with our pooch?  She had a raspberry looking (in color, texture, shape and size) cyst removed from her left front elbow yesterday.  It had been there for a while, but recently Nina had been licking it, making it swell and become an open sore.  So it had to come off.  The vet sent the raspberry bump to be biopsied, because there is a slight chance it could be cancerous.  We are really hoping that is not the case, but it is a slight possibility.  Currently, she is wearing a plastic cone around her head to make sure she doesn’t lick the stitches open.  She really dislikes the cone.  Poor Nina is walking around the house very slowly with her tail between her legs and a very sad expression on her face.  We hope her incision heals quickly!

Just another Ohio winter week

Posted by Sara on Feb 1, 2009 under Baby, Dog, House, Photos

This week seemed just like many of the past weekends this winter with cold weather and lots of snow.  I think we’re up to over a foot on the ground now, even though today I’m sure some of it melted in the “heat wave.”  Anyway, I caught a few moments on camera and thought I’d share the monotony of our daily lives…

We had a bath (and played with our toes!)

Cal learned a new trick!

Had a contest to see who’s mouth is bigger (I think Cal won!)

And of course, we had some snow clean up to do…

Nina kept watch over the puppy  next door…

But most of our week was spent playing!
