Last Week in Review: Out and About

Monday, July 27th, 2009

Another whirlwind week gone.  Fred and I have just under a month left until we both go back to work (I’ll be back for about a month or so when Baby J 2.0 is due).  Where did the summer go?!?  It seems like we’ve gotten really busy lately:

  • We’ve been working on switching Calvin over to all table food, rather than baby food, and this week we had some fun meals.  One of them being “pan spaghetti” which is baked spaghetti with pepperoni, I’ll post the recipe later, Fred’s mom gave it to me and we love it.  So does Calvin!
  • While Fred and my step-brother, Matt painted Calvin’s new room, I took Cal shopping.  We went searching for a dresser to go in his new room, but we didn’t find one.  I think Fred and I are going to have to take a trip to Ikea before school starts back up.
  • Fred also worked on making a hinged gate for our deck.  We’ve had an incident or two where Calvin has tried to climb off the deck.  The gate looks great and keeps Calvin safe on the deck, that’s one less thing to worry about now!
  • Cal and I visited my aunt and cousin and her kids at my grandmother’s house.  My cousin has 3 kids, a 10 year old boy, a 3 year old girl, and a very busy 2 year old boy.   All 4 of the kids had a great time playing together.
  • I had another doctor’s appointment this week, Baby J is growing and growing.  The doctor said everything looks great, no problems in sight. Baby J is kicking me all the time, especially at night; making it hard to sleep.  But that’s just getting me used to staying up all night again, right?
  • A friend and I went to our second sewing class on Saturday.  It wasn’t quite what we were expecting.  For a 3 hour class in which we were supposed to make a tote bag, the instructor spent the first 2 hours talking.  Needless to say, my tote bag is not finished and I have to find time to go back to the store to have someone help me finish it.  But, I am getting a refund for the class fee!

That’s about it for us, hope you had a good week and aren’t too disappointed with the unseasonably cool weather we’ve been having in NEO.  I know I’m not complaining this summer (next summer will be different, because I won’t be pregnant!)!

Last Week in Review: Big Boy Room!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

This week was all about getting things ready for Calvin’s new room.  We aren’t planning on letting him sleep in there for another month or so, but we want to have everything ready.

  • We (Fred, Andy and I) spackeled and primered the former “office” in preperation for transforming the room into Cal’s big boy room.  While I couldn’t be in the room with all the paint fumes, I worked on painting the closet doors outside; 3 coats of white primer and 4 hours later, they were done!
  • We bought the bedding and some decor for Cal’s room at Target.
  • I did some major garage sale shopping and got a bunch of stuff for Calvin and some things to make my life in the next year or two easier :) .

I’ve already talked about all this though, so let me tell you about some of the more entertaining moments of the week:

  • I asked Calvin “How did you get so cute?” and he answered “Dada.”  I think Fred’s already gotten to him!  (I’ve asked him this question 3 times since then and every time he says “Dada”.)
  • We’ve been working on cutting out all baby food and bottles; he’s down to one bottle a day (night) and only gets baby food when we are out and about (like at a restaurant, I may be overly picky, but I’m not comfortable giving him restaurant food yet, who knows what’s in it!).  One of his favorite foods lately is eggs:

Last Week In Review- Independence Day!

Monday, July 6th, 2009

This will be a short, pictureless post.  Our main computer’s motherboard stopped working this week so I’m using the laptop, which is not good for downloading pictures.  Sadly, our main computer will not be up and running again until sometime Thursday, so I may not get pictures up at all this week.

  • Calvin’s new best friend is Jade, our cat.  He loves finding her napping spots and saying “hi” to her while trying to pat her feet.  She, however, wants nothing to do with him and hisses at him before running away.  Yet Cal is not discouraged!
  • Like I said, the computer died on Friday, so Fred has been busy trying to save all of our files (pictures, written documents, ect.) and figure out how to get it fixed asap.
  • Fred also moved the entire office (comic books and figurines included!) to the basement.  We are moving Cal into a “big boy room” next month so the new baby can have the nursery.  We bought Cal’s bed, now all we need is a dresser and decor for it.  Anyone want to help us paint the walls?
  • Friday we went to the Akron Zoo.  The jellyfish exhibit is a must see, and the baby jaguars are adorable!  Since we have a season pass, I’m hoping to go back when it’s less crowded so we can get a better look.  Cal liked the petting zoo, mainly the big goat (I have a very cute picture of him petting the goat, but alas, it will have to wait!).
  • We did not take Cal to fireworks or a parade this year for the 4th.  In fact, we had a quiet day at home and then left Calvin with my cousin as a babysitter while we went to a cookout.  Cal went to bed early and we set off lots of smokey firecrackers.  I think next year we’ll try fireworks and the Fairlawn parade with the boys.

That’s about it for last week, nothing too exciting.  Have a great week!

Last week in review: Fred’s Best Week Ever

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Last week played out like a week on VH1′s Best Week Ever for Fred:

  • Fred entered and won a contest via Twitter.  He had to submit a joke to win Nintento Wii points (to download video games).  So he submits his favorite joke: “Why don’t seagulls fly over the bay?”   “Because they’d be bagels” and link to his website comic strip.  Fred was very proud of himself…and now I’ll never hear the end of this corney joke!
  • Fred also finished putting our basement back together (with the help of his hard working dad, of course!); tiled the floor, cleaned up the left over mess from the waterproofing we had done in May, and put all our things back the way they were (only more organized!).
  • Then, on Saturday he found another good video game buy at the Hartville Flea Market.  I don’t know what the game he got is, but he paid $5 for a game that is supposedly selling on Ebay for close to $100.  Now he just has to decide if he’s going to keep it or try to sell it.
  • Cal had a good week too, he kept very busy playing and playing and playing.  He’s talking so much now, his favorite word is “hi” which he says all the time!  I have to try to get it on video, Cal just babbles and babbles, it makes me smile.
  • Calvin and I went to visit some friends and family this week.  He got to have lunch with his great grandma and later in the week, play with his friend Caelan, a little girl who’s exactly 1 month older than him (I know, already after the older women!).  The two kids had fun, as did the moms :)
  • Me?  I’m just working on growing this baby, keeping cool, and making sure my feet don’t swell too much!  And of course, enjoying my family!

Last week in review: Father’s Day Edition

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Last week was busy!

  • Fred started his summer job; working at an adventure camp for middle school age kids.  He slaves away 3 days a week showing kids how to water ski, mountain bike, kayak, and canoe.  He’s got it rough, doesn’t he?
  • I got my haircut :)
  • I taught vacation bible school at our church.  This was the first time I’d ever been involved in a VBS and it was fun!  The kids were really good and the people I worked with were very nice.
  • Calvin worked on imitating sounds, he says “hello”  now, and can imitate lots of other sounds (he’s just like a little parrot!).  He also started cruising around the furniture more easily.  He’s on his way to talking and walking!
  • Another first for Cal; he got to play (and taste) the sand of Silver Creek Metro Park.  On Tuesday I took Cal up to the park while Fred had a group of kids there for his camp.  At first he didn’t like the water at all, but after he got used to it, he had a good time.  We were hoping to go back the next day, but the weather didn’t cooperate.  We’ll go back again soon though.  In the meantime, he’s getting better about playing in his kiddie pool at home too.
  • Last, for Father’s Day, we spent the day relaxing.  Fred got to enjoy his newest addition to his ever growing video game collection: Punch Out for the Wii while Calvin and I both took long afternoon naps.  Later we went to Fred’s parents house for dinner.  I’d say it was a good day for all of us!

I know what you’re thinking…where are the pictures ?  We were having technical difficulties here at our house today (oh the joys of Microsoft Vista!), but I’ll add them to this post as soon as I can!  They are just waiting to be uploaded.

See more pictures of the little guy in the water here.
