Just one day at a time.

Sunday, September 25th, 2011

Looking back, August was a busy month.  We had lots of things going on; birthdays, back to school, a wedding shower, and everyday life (which, with a newborn, is busy enough!).  We all pulled through it though, no matter how stressed out or frustrated we got. We just took it one day at a time. I think that’s my new motto in life; one day at a time.

Monday, August 1
Three kids are a lot harder to handle than they look, especially when they are all under 3 years old.  This is how I reward myself after a hard day (but I better not have to many hard days; I’ve got a bit of baby weight to lose!).

Chocolate chip snack cake and ice cream, take me away!

Tuesday, August 2
I’m not sure who had more fun!

Riding with Grandpop!

Wednesday, August 3
I am sure I’ll catch a lot of crap for this picture, but Laura likes to sleep on her belly! And I let her nap that way, because she needs to sleep and I need a break from holding her.  This does not mean I recommend putting a child to sleep on his/her belly; back to sleep is still best!

Catching some z's

Thursday, August 4

Fred's a keeper; he brought me flowers!

Friday, August 5
We had some hot temperatures today, so naturally we got out the (new) pool and had some fun in the water.

No wonder the boys like to rough-house.

Sleeping in the shade, poolside.

Saturday, August 6

Saturday morning gaming is much better than Saturday morning cartoons.

Oliver always does what Calvin does anymore; with his own spin, anyway.

Sunday, August 7
To keep cool, our large and shy cat, Sally  has been camping out in the bathtub at night.

Fat cat in the tub!

Monday, August 8
I think our experimental container garden can be called a bust. This is our not-so-bountiful harvest of sweet red peppers (or over ripe green peppers), banana peppers, and cayenne peppers. The broccoli, cabbage, and tomato plants have produced nothing this year and don’t look to produce anything later in the season.

Note the sweet red peppers are smaller than the banana peppers!

Tuesday, August 9
It never fails; I schedule family pictures and one of the kids messes up his face. And, as usual, it’s Oliver. He has a habit of falling face first off the deck steps in our back yard. Poor guy, he has such a handsome face, but it’s going to be covered in scars by the time he’s 5 if he keeps this up!

Road rash. Again.

Wednesday, August 10
Calvin told me he wanted a “Mickey” cake for his birthday. Another day he told me he wanted cupcakes. The kid loves cupcakes! So I stumbled upon these at Disney’s family website.

Theirs.

So I stayed up making my version (instead of yellow cake mine were home made cookies and cream cupcakes thanks to Bakerella’s recipe

Mine!

Thursday, August 11
Happy birthday to my big guy! I can’t believe that Cal turned 3 today!

I wonder what he wished for.

Friday, August 12
Laura is one month old today! It’s already hard to remember our family before she came. Even if she’s still not sure about us!

Ever wonder what babies think about the rest of us?

Saturday, August 13
Today we celebrated my little sister’s 25th birthday.  Her actual birthday isn’t until 8/16, but we don’t need to be technical.

Oliver loves a good birthday celebration.

Sunday, August 14
Everyone has been asking how the boys are doing with their new sister; they are doing pretty well.  I wasn’t sure what to expect this time, since Cal was still so little when Oliver was born and didn’t really seem to notice/mind a new baby in the house.  Calvin likes to “help” with her. Usually by trying to pick her up when he thinks I’m not looking, but he always has good intentions, even if he does send me to an early grave with the way he “rocks” her in her bouncy chair. And Oliver loves to dote on her; he gives her kisses and hugs (we’re still working on the personal space/gentleness of his affection) and he brings her toys to play with, just like in this picture.  I couldn’t be more proud of how both the boys have adjusted to having a baby sister.

"Here, have an orange. It may be plastic, but you don't have any teeth anyway!"

Monday, August 15
She’s two months old, but already has the same habits her brothers had as babies; she loves to be held, mainly by me. Especially at dinner time. So this is how she lays while I try to eat a meal.

"Ahh, this is the life."

Wordless Wednesday

Wednesday, June 8th, 2011

We got a new to us sandbox! If you’ve never used Freecycle, you should really check it out. I’ve gotten rid of and received some good stuff, like this sandbox.  A few years ago we got rid of an extra fridge we had.  We didn’t have to pay to have if hauled somewhere and someone who needed it got a working fridge, worked out for both parties!

Toes in the sand. I foresee lots of sand in the house, but the boys love the new toy!

**This is the picture for Monday, June 6!

Watermelon

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Did you know it’s National Watermelon month?  Neither did I.  But these polar bears did!  I thought these were too cute to pass up…

A Message From the North Pole

Our boys have been so good this year that Santa wanted to contact them both!

Calvin’s Message

Oliver’s Message

A letter to Santa

Monday, November 30th, 2009

As we enter the holiday season, Calvin and Oliver wanted to send an email to Santa.  I thought I’d share it with you…

Dear Santa,

Mom and Dad have been reading us Christmas stories and told me that you bring presents to all the good little boys and girls. Mom said that we could write to you and tell you that both Oliver and me (Calvin) have been pretty good this year.  Even though I’m climbing all the furniture and getting into everything I possibly can, I’m still a good boy, says Mom.  My little brother has been pretty good, he’s too little to really get into trouble like I do.  Mom says just give him time, he’ll get into enough trouble later.  Oliver and I came up with some things we’d like for Christmas (Mom added a couple things too):

  • Little People play things, like this boat or barn
  • Blocks
  • Puzzles
  • 18 month clothes for winter (Calvin)
  • 0-3 or 3-6 month clothes for winter (Oliver)
  • Toddler slippers, size 5
  • The movie Up
  • Books
  • Wrist rattles
  • Play gym

We’ll leave you some milk and cookies on Christmas Eve as a trade for some presents.  Maybe some carrots for the reindeer too.

Love,

Calvin and Oliver

p.s. Please don’t skip our house if Oliver isn’t alseep, he still wakes up a couple times a night because he gets hungry.  Mom promises to keep him out of the living room so you can drop off our presents!

Aren’t they sweet?  Of course, the season is more about giving than receiving, so we’ll be helping the boys understand this as well!
